Winter

winter

on a busy sidewalk in winter
they see and stop
to say hello and how is your
wife says she and how is your
husband says he and

they share the polite
lies and pause to watch the
people hurriedly walk-
ing around them in
the chilled air

nice to see you she
says and he agrees that
it was but knew it
was not and decides
next time it will be best

to pass

on

Thanks for posting this, and for giving me the chance to read it in its different forms.

And thank you for helping me tease out the best this poem could be.
